Sy was introduced to electronic data processing in 1955 after working with bearings for 30 years. He immediately realized the benefit of using data processing to solve the growing need for reliable cross-reference information for bearings. He researched various numbering systems used in bearing catalogs, and created the Rapid Reference System™—a simple and unique method for organizing the data.

The first IBI Guide was printed in 1966. Numerous reprints and expansions followed, ultimately leading to the online website partscrossreference.com originally launched in 2001. After over 60 years, our database has grown to over 1.5 million part numbers, with parts cross-referencing volumes covering Bearings, Seals, Drive Belts, Filters, Mounted Units, and Prefix/Suffix Identification.
